Payment

Payment may be made by Cheque, Postal Order (PO), Bank Transfer, PayPal (Please complete payment as Friends & Family or you will have to pay PayPal fees). We also accept MoneyGram from the Post Office or Western Union but don’t recommend their use.

A non returnable booking deposit of £80 per week is requested with your Booking Form. This is deducted from the balance that is payable at the latest two months before your arrival. On receipt of your payments we will immediately confirm your reservation and send you a receipt.

We also offer part-week / short-breaks during the Low Season and as last minute bookings.

Linen

Please supply your own linen, i.e. duvet covers, bottom sheet, pillow cases, towels, bath mat, tea towels. Although one bed is King Sized you will find that you can put this duvet into a Standard Double Bed duvet cover. A “non fitted” Double Bed bottom sheet will cover our mattress.  We purchased a luxurious King Size bed in 2023.

We supply the following –

– King size duvet x1

– Single size duvet x3

– Double duvet x1

– Pillows x8

Facilities

Comprehensive range of cooking equipment, ceramic hob, fan oven, microwave, quad toaster, fridge, freezer, Free 3 Network mobile broadband WiFi / MoMo – Free Mobile Broadband, Freeview flat screen SMART TV, CD / DVD player, FreeSat / Sky+ dish so that you can attach your own box, de-humidifier,  Air2Air Heat Pump, Combination Safe, electric heaters, heated towel rail, electric fly killer, bedside alarm radios x3, dining table & 6 chairs, iron, ironing board, matching crockery, cutlery & glassware.  The TV can be used to see & hear inside the birdbox as shown on the Photo Gallery page.

We have a window vacuum to remove the condensation from the windows.

The Lounge windows / door have been replaced with double glazed units during December 2022, a Air to Air heat exchanger will also be installed as these are extremely efficient and will help to reduce your heating expenditure.

Double glazed window and door installed in the main bedroom in Spring 2023.

Tackle Store with bait fridge including Freezer compartment, light, exterior LED floodlight on decking / river (midges are not attracted to LED lights and they are economical to use), bait buckets, etc.

Our visitors tell us that the house is as well-equipped as their own homes.

A friend, Howard, moors his boat in our boatdyke.  Whenever he visits his boat he will introduce himself and inform you as to when he plans on returning.  He will use the double gate entrance on the East side so as to not disturb you.  He has a small dog which he will keep on a leash.

Provisional Bookings

Please phone or email at any time, we will respond immediately.

Pets

Yes, we accept well behaved pets for a fee of £5 per pet per day.

Smoking

For the comfort of others we ask visitors not to smoke inside the holiday cottage.

Car Parking / Access

Via a concrete path 50 yards from the MBBDC / the boatyard car park – £16 p.w. Nov. 2021.

The flat concrete path is wide enough for a wheelchair and our very large luggage cart.

Please note that the path is not illuminated so please bring a torch. We do have a movement activated porch light.

We recommend bringing wellington boots and a torch with you.

Change Over

You may take over Moonriver from 3pm, or later, on the day of arrival, but it must be vacated by 10am on the day of departure in a clean condition. You can arrive earlier and leave your luggage, etc. in the Tackle Store, but please do not leave things inside Moonriver before our cleaners have finished as they want to do a good job.  If you arrive before the cleaner has finished you can fish off the garden.

Details of how to find Moonriver can be seen on the Map page of this website, plus will be included in your receipt letter.

We keep the keys in a combination Key Safe.

Electricity

We charge the same amount as our electricity supplier charges me, we use a £1 coin meter to recover the cost. Please ensure that your coins are not sticky, bent, or damaged as they may jam the meter. Use £1 coins only. Please turn the large knob all the way after inserting each £1 coin, past when you hear the £1 coin drop into the box, the coin credit meter will then increase by £1.

Please note that due to recent energy price rises, Dec 2021 – 2022, I now pay 40p per unit, (including VAT, government Energy Price Guarantee payment, and daily supply rate) and charge you the same.  You are not charged for electricity usage associated with the trace heating, macerator toilet or the sewage treatment plant.

The electricity coin meter clearly displays the rate per unit being charged by me / it.  Please note that most guests find it a strange experience to feed a meter in the winter with £10 or more a day, but I am only charging you for what you use.  Some guests are out fishing, walking, sailing, etc during the day and visiting pubs and friends during the night so consume very little electricity, while others spend lots of time inside Moonriver.  I can’t think of a fairer method than pay for what you use.  In 2023 we installed an Air2Air heat exchanger which is cheaper to heat Moonriver than an electric fire.  Regular guests have told me that they use between a third and half of the money using it rather than the electric fire.

The walls, floor and ceiling spaces are all fully insulated with the best thick insulation foam available to help keep the cost of heating as low as possible.

The Lounge windows / door have been replaced, Dec 2022, with double glazed units.  In April 2023 we installed double glazed windows and door in the main bedroom.

An Air to Air heat exchanger has been installed April 2023.  These are extremely efficient and will help to reduce your heating expenditure and improve your comfort.  The external unit has been located on the South facing side of the garden shed as that is a sun trap.  I would suggest that this unit will be cheaper to use than the wall mounted fire as its much more efficient!

If you have any suggestions as to how we can improve Moonriver then please tell me.
